Principal's Message

Welcome to a brand-new school year at North River Elementary!

I am thrilled to be returning to NRE as your principal. I am truly grateful to walk through these doors each day alongside our incredible students, families, and staff.

At North River Elementary, we believe that our diversity makes us stronger. We are committed to building a safe, inclusive environment where every child is celebrated for who they are. At the same time, we are here to support, encourage, and inspire each student to grow into the very best version of themselves—academically, socially, and emotionally.

Our hearts are full, and our goals are set to make the 2026–2027 school year the best. Thank you for your continued partnership and trust. Together, let’s make this a memorable year of learning and growing!

What's New?

Changing schools? Moving on to CCJHS?  Or just starting school in September 2026? Please request busing transportation. 

If your child is eligible* for bus transportation and is:

  • Grading up to a new school,
  • Starting Primary or Pre-primary for the first time,
  • Going to have a new address in September,
  • New to CCRCE

You will need to request transportation for the 2026-2027 school year.

Please note: If your child is staying at the same school, there is no need to request transportation. 

The 2026–2027 Transportation Request Form is now available on BusPlanner Web under Online Forms and Requests. Please submit the request form by June 30, 2026.

*Please note: To be eligible for bus transportation, students must reside within their designated catchment of the school they are attending and meet the minimum distance criteria.

Registration is now available for Pre-Primary and Primary Programs.

  1. Find out what school catchment you live in.
    • Visit Bus Planner to learn about your school catchment area and bus eligibility.
  2. Join us at the school to register your child for Pre-primary and Primary at your catchment area school.
    • Please bring with you the following documentation:
      • Nova Scotia Health Card
      • Birth Certificate
      • Proof of residency to confirm your school catchment area (e.g. utility bill)
    • Pre-Primary and Primary eligible ages for enrollment:
      • Children who reside in the province of Nova Scotia and reach the age of five (5) years on or before December 31, 2026 are eligible for enrolment in the Primary Program.
      • The Pre-primary program is voluntary and open to all children who are at least four years old by December 31st, 2026, and live within school catchment. Children can only attend the Pre-primary program for one year.

Safety

Our front door driveway is reserved ONLY for buses. This helps to keep our students safe by reducing the risk of a student/car accident. Visitors or parents dropping off or picking up students before and after school must use the side parking lot for entering and exiting. The area along the building side of the driveway is a fire regulated NO PARKING zone. We appreciate your understanding and help to keep our students safe.
